Advanced skin

Microneedling in Durham

Microneedling and RF microneedling for scarring, texture and skin quality, delivered as a planned course.

Microneedling — sometimes called collagen induction therapy — uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin, prompting the natural repair process that supports collagen production.

What this treatment is

A sterile needling cartridge is passed over the skin at a set depth, creating thousands of microscopic channels.

These channels trigger a wound-healing response in which the skin produces new collagen and elastin over the following weeks.

Depth is adjusted by area — finer around the eyes and more robust over cheeks or scarred areas.

What it may help with

  • Uneven texture and rough-feeling skin
  • Acne scarring
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Dull-looking skin
  • Fine lines

When it may not be suitable

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active infection, broken skin or inflammation in the treatment area
  • Certain medications, including some that increase light sensitivity
  • A history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • Some medical conditions or recent procedures affecting the treatment area
  • Active acne, eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area
  • Active cold sore outbreak
  • Recent isotretinoin use, depending on timing

This list is general guidance only. Individual suitability is always determined at consultation, where we review your medical history, medication and skin in person.

How treatment works at Zazura

  • Skin assessment and cleansing.
  • Topical numbing where appropriate.
  • Needling is performed in passes across each section of the treatment area.
  • A soothing serum or mask is applied afterwards.

Consultation and assessment

A consultation confirms whether needling is appropriate for your skin, current products, medication and any history of scarring or pigmentation changes.

What happens at a consultation

During your appointment

A vibrating, scratchy sensation that is more noticeable over bony areas and around the nose. Numbing makes it comfortable for most people.

Typical appointment time: Approximately 45 to 75 minutes including numbing.

Afterwards

Redness similar to sunburn for around 24 to 48 hours, sometimes with tightness or light flaking for a few days.

  • Use only gentle cleansing and the products advised for the first few days.
  • No make-up for the period advised.
  • Avoid heat, exercise and swimming for 48 hours.
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF daily.

Sessions and frequency

Usually recommended as a course spaced a few weeks apart, with the number of sessions agreed at consultation.

Skin often feels smoother within a couple of weeks, while collagen-related changes develop gradually across a course. Results vary and are influenced by skincare, sun protection and lifestyle.

Common questions

Can microneedling help acne scars?

It is often used for textural acne scarring as part of a course. The likely benefit depends on the type and depth of scarring, which is assessed in person.

When can I wear make-up again?

Usually after the period advised at your appointment, typically the following day, once the skin has closed and settled.
